Inhibitory Effect of Chlorpromazine on the Myocardial Contractility

It is well known that chlorpromazine (Cp) produces myocaridal damage as a fatal side effect. Although its cause is still unknown, it is suggested that it may be due to the inhibition of enzyme activity. In the present study, the authors studied the inhibitory effect of Cp on myocardial contractility and also the effect of 2-mercaptopropionylglycine (thiola) on the action of Cp. Cp inhibited the myocardial contractility with the dose-dependent manner, and this inhibition was removed partially by thiola.
