Improvement of Field-Induced Electron Emission Using Ir or IrO2 Electrode and Ferroelectric Film Coating

Field-induced electron emission from a thin plate offerroelectric lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramic into vacuumhas been improved by coatingthe PZT plate with ferroelectric PZT film and using an Ir orIrO2 film electrodeinstead of a Pt electrode.The PZT film coating enhances the emitted charge andimproves the fatigue property.The number of the emissions from PZT with the Ir or IrO2 electrode isimproved by more than 4 orders of magnitude in comparisonwith that to a Pt electrode.
