Physical and Structural Properties of Ternary Uranium Compounds in the U-Ni-Sn and U-Ni-In Systems

New ternary uranium compounds of UNi.Sn and UNi.In have been prepared andfound to crystallize in the MgCu.A]-type structure. On these compounds andUNi.Sn, UNi.In and U.Ni,Sn. with cubic structures, we report the results of electricalresistivity, thermoelectric power, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measure-ments. Of the five compounds, only U,Ni.Sn. exhibits a moderately heavy-fermionbehavior at low temperatures. The other four compounds, where the distance between the U atom and the nearest-neighboring Ni atom is almost the same as inU.Ni.Sn., are, however, enhanced Pauli paramagnets. No compounds show magneticor superconducting transition down to 1 .6 K.
