Physical Properties of New Compounds RMg_2Ni_9(R=La,Ce,Pr,Nd and Gd) with a Two Dimensional Rare Earth Arrangement

XVe performed the unagnetic strsceptibility, specific treat and electrical resistivility taaeasurernentson RMgzNig where R:La, Ce, Pr, Nd and Gd. RMgzNig crystallizes in a hexagonal PtrlNi3-typestructtrre, in which the R atotns are in a txvo-dirnensional arrangenaent. The results indicatethat CeMg3Nig is a valence fluctuated compound with 'y : 80 IIIJ / naol-Ce-K', but the magneticsusceptibility and the electrical resistivility do not show any bro?td peak at a finite tenaperature.Even for R=Gd, no naagnetic ordering is observed at 2 K. The unusual physical propertiesof RlVIgxNio are obviotrsly influenced by the two-dimensional atrrangernent of rare earth in thec-plane.
