The magnetizations of pseudo-binary Y.-.R.Co, (R:Pr, Sm) single crystal com-pounds were measured at 4.2 K along the principal crystallographie axes. The magneticmoment per formula unit increases linearly with increasing x. The estimated values ofthe magnetic moments of Co atom in the compounds are independent of x and Relements. The magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants K'j ar..d Z'Jf were determinedfrom the analysis of the hard magnetization curve. The values of K') and Kg for Prcompound system increase quadratically with increasing x, and those of Sm compoundsystem increase almost linearly with increasing x. We estimated the contribution of thesingle ion anisotropy and the two ton anisotropy for PrCo, and SmCo, compounds. For PrCo. compound, the two ion anisotropy cotv.stant was the same order ofmagnitude as the single ton one and of opposite sign to it, and for SmCo. compound, the former is negligibly smaller than the latter. The calculated value of the single ionanisotropy constant using point charge model is compared with the experiments.
