The contribution of the magnetoelastic term (Al'.).... to the effective magneticanisotropy constant K. has been evaluated for Ni using the published data on elasticconstants and the magnetostriction constants redetermined in the present measure-ment. Measurements were done with the (001) and (011) disks by means of the straingauge technique. At high temperatures where the sign of K. is positive, the sign of(A.).... is positive and the magnitude is a little larger than that of K.. The change in signof K. from negative to positive with a rise in temperature is therefore ascribable to(A.)...., and the intrinsic magnetic anisotropy constant (A.). (= K. - (A.)....) decreasesmonotonically in magnitude without accompanying any change in sign, as temperaturerises up to the Curue temperature T..
