Magnetic Transition from the Ferromagnetic to Spin Glass Like State in Eu_xYb_<1-x>Alloy

The ac magnetic susceptibility, magnetization and electrical resistivity weremeasured for fcc Eu,Ybj , alloy (0<H,v<0.4). The ,v-temperature magneticphase diagram was determined. Ferromagnetic state is observed for O$,v<0.29.The paramagnetic to ferromagnetic state transition temperature, T., takes amaximum value, 31 K, near ,v=0.I2. The ferromagnetic to spin glass like statetransition temperature, T., suddenly appears at about .X'=O.17 and the ferro-magnetic region disappears at about 10 K and ,X7=0.29 (triple point). The para-magnetic to spin glass like state transition temperature, T., shows almost no con-centration dependence in 0.29<,v'F0.40. The spontaneous magnetization at 0 Kobtained by an extrapolation holds the constant value, 7.6 p./Eu atom, for x<0.1, and decreases linearly as x increases for ,v>0.1. In the electrical resistivitydata, the transition from the semimetallic to semiconducting state as x increasesis found.
