Magnetoresistance and Magnetstriction of Eu_xYb_<1-x>Alloy (x≦0.4)

Magnetoresistance (MR) and magnetostriction (MS) of Eu,Yb. . alloys(0<,v<0.4) have been measured in a temperature range from 4.2K to 150K inmagnetic fields up to 60 k0e. Comparing with ferromagnetic phase (,v<0.28), MR inthe spin glass phase (0.28<,v<0.40) is very large negative, and is an activation type,in which the activation energy is nearly quadratic dependence on magnetization. Forx=0.4, MS is large positive. These results of MR and MS are discussed on the basis ofRKKY interaction in case of low carrier density and the carrier number dependentmagnetovolume effect, respectively.
