A New Phase Transition of α-Ce_3Al Due to the Spin Fluctuation?─the Partial Substitution of La and Y for Ce─

The measurements of the X-ray powder diffraction, the magnetic susceptibility, theelectric resistivity, the thermopower and the specific heat were carried out for the sam-pie of cv-Ce.Al and the substituted systems of La and Y for Ce. In cc-Ce,AN, the firstorder phase transition at T. - 100 K is found to be accompanied with a decrease of theunit cell volume of the low temperature phase by an amount of 1.8%, without chang-ing the crystal structure of a hexagonal Ni,Sn type. The substitution of either La or Yfor Ce leads to the decrease of T., indicating the transition to be dependent on the Ceconcentration due to a cooperative nature between the Ce 4f electrons. The transitionclosely associated with the valence change of Ce is discussed in connection with thespin fluctuation.cv-Ce.Al, (Ce. ,La.).A1, (Ce. .Y.),AN, phase transition, spin fluctuation
