Low-Temperature Physical Properties of Polycrystal and Single Crystal of CePt_2Sn_2

Low-ternperattrre physical properties of' a polycrystal and a single crystal of CePt,Sn,z arediscussed. The low-temperature specific heat, C(T), and the ac magnetic susceptibility, )..(V'),were measured for both samples down to teunperattures of 0,15K and 0.O3K, respectively. Tlaepolycrystalline sample showed an antiferromagnetic transition at V"N : 0.8 K. The single crystaldid not exhibit a long-range magnetic transition at 0.8 K, but exhibited a very sharp cusp 111'g...(T) at O.38K and a broad peak in C(T) at around 0.45K. These anomalies in the case ofthe single crystal are attributed to a spin-glass transition at T.. = 0.38 K. The results for thepolycrystal and the single crystal suggest that the previotrsly proposed very-heavy-Fermion stateis not realized in CePtxSnx but the enhanced C(T)/T is largely attributable to rnagnetuc phasetransitons of the localized monuents of Ce"
