Low-Temperature Magnetic Properties of Several Compounds in Ce-Pd-X (X=Si,Ge and Al) Ternary Systems

We have investigated several ternary cornpounds of' cerium in the Ce-Pd-X (X=Si, Ge and Al)systems and their La cotrnterparts by naeasuring t}?e rnagnetic stusceptibility, electrical resistivityand specific heat. The Ce ions in these conapounds are in the nearly trivalent state and mostof thena show rnagnetic order of either long-range or spin-glass type at low ternperattmres. Noneof them distinctly exhibits the heavy ferrnion behztvior, although it may be obscured by atornicdisorder in some compotrnds. The relation between several isostructural ternary compounds of'Ce-Pd-($1 and Ge) or Ce-Pd-(Al and Ga) system is qtralitatively disctrssed in the f'rameworkof the Doniach phase diagrana. The v?triation of the unit cell volttrne suggests that the formergroup is consistent with this phase diagrana but the latter is not seerraingly so, We found thatLaPdSia and LaPdo.c;Ge?..a among the La counterparts are superconducting below 2.6 and 2.8K, respectively.
