Contrasting Kondo-Lattice Behavior in CeTSi_3 and CeTGe_3(T=Rh and Ir)

Specific-heat, magnetic-suscepti bility and electrical-resistivity tneastrrernents were carried ottton four Ce cornpotrnds of tetragonal BaNiSn3-type, CeTSi3 and CeTGe3 (T = Rh and Ire. Allthese cotnpotunds show rnagnetic transitions at low temperatures. CeRhSi3 and Ce[rSi3 are aKondo-lattice cornpotmnd with a relatively high Kondo temperature of the order of 100 K, whileCeRhGe3 and CeIrGe3 exhibit a very weak Kondo effect, and three magnetic pltase transitionsbelow 14.6 K and 8.7 K, respectively. These contrasting behaviors in the silicides and geruaaanidesare discussed bv coraar>arin: with rrorerties of other BaNiSna-tvtce Ce coraar>otrnds, like CeFeGesand CeCoGe3.
