Synthesis and Characterization of New Ternary Uranium Compound UCr_2Al_<20>

A new U-based ternary compound UCrzAI.. was synthesized. The compound wascharacterized by X-ray diffraction, specific heat, magnetization and resistivity meas-urements. The low temperature electronic specific heat coefficient y is estimated to bey : 80 mJ / mol - K'. The magnetic susceptibility is slightly temperature dependent withthe value 7, : 2 X 10 ' emu / mol. The ratio z / z.., where z... is calculated from y, isabout 2, which suggests that the compound is a magnetically exchange-enhancedsystem.UCr.Al.., heavy fermion
