Superconducting Properties of the Pd-Se System

We have studied the transport and superconducting properties of the series ofpalladium-rich selenides, Pd,Se., Pd.Se, Pd.Se., Pd..Se.., Pd,Se. and amorphousPd..Se..,. These compounds except Pd.Se, Pd.Se. are superconductive above 0.38 K,whereas the rest of compounds in the whole Pd-Se system are not. The results ofspecific heat measurement revealed a relatively strong electron-phonon coupling inPd,.Se.., which is responsible for both the enhanced T. (2.66 K) and the anomaloustemperature dependence of resistivity. The solid solutions of Pd(Se) and Pd(Te) exhibit no superconductivity above 0.38 K in spite of weakened spin fluctuations relative to those in pure Pd.
