ハマウツボ科のニクジュヨウ(Cistanche salsa(C.A. Meyer)G. Beck)は,日本では強壮作用を有する和漢薬として使用されている寄生植物である。我々は以前の研究において,ニクジュヨウ抽出液の透析物(CSD)がヒトB細胞株BALL-1およびNamalwaにおいて免疫調節作用を有することを報告した。本研究では,タンパク結合多糖体(PSK)を比較対照物として用いて,18種の細胞株に対するCSDの作用の検討を行った。その結果,ほとんど全ての細胞株において,CSDとPSKに対する細胞増殖と抗体産生の応答性は同じであった。CSDは,Namalwaを含む数種の細胞株において細胞増殖を抑制した。また,これとは対照的にBALL-1およびT細胞株を含む他の細胞株では,増殖を促進していた。抗体産生においては,CSDとPSKが,BALL-1のIgM産生とプラズマB細胞株であるHMy-2のIgG産生を増強した。さらに,ゲルろ過クロマトグラフィーにおいて,CSDの同じフラクションがNamalwaとマウス由来のメラノーマ細胞株B16の細胞増殖を抑制していた。これらの結果は,ニクジュヨウが,PSKと同様に生体応答調節物質となり,細胞性免疫と液性免疫に作用すると同時に,直接的な抗腫瘍作用を有することを示唆するものである。
