Monte Carlo Simulation of Secondary Electron Emission from Tungsten Surfaces with Various Work Functions as Applied to Sc/W Surfaces

To elucidate the secondary electron emission from tungsten surfaces of various work functions, as experimentally prepared by scandium deposition onto a W(100)surface, a Monte Carlo simulation of energy distribution of secondary electrons, N_S(E), emitted from tungsten surfaces with various work functions has been performed for comparison with the measured distribution from a Sc/W(100)surface.The Monte Carlo simulation described the shift of the onset of N_S(E) with considerable success and, furthermore, successfully predicted the appearance of a hump at around 20eV in N_S(E), which has long been a question awaiting explaination.
