The optical gap and the glass transition temperature show monotonic and nonmonotonic changes with x in (Ge_<0.3>S_<0.7>)_<100-x>-(Sb_<0.4>S_<0.6>)_x and (Ge_<0.42>S_<0.58>)_<1-x%gt;(Sb_<0.4>S_<0.6>)_x glasses respectively. The relationship between the optical gap and the glass transition temperature obeys the formula obtained by DeNeufville and Rockstad. The electrical conductivity is not greatly changed in either series of glasses, and the addition of Sb_2S_3 brings about no appreciable change in the ESR shape for Ge_<30>S_<70> a higher g-shift for Ge_<42>S_<58> and a decrease in the spin density for both glasses. These results can be explained by noting that the structure around Ge in Ge_<42>S_<58> becomes S-richer by the incorporation of Sb_2S_3, whereas the structure of Ge_<30>S_<70> tends to form solid solutions of GeS_2 and Sb_2S_3 with excess S-S bonds.
