Electrical Properties of Langmuir-Blodgett Films Sandwiched between Pb-Bi Superconducting Electrodes : Electrical Properties of Condensed Matter

We have examined the electrical properties of insulating layers of both cadmium arachidate (C_<20>) and polyamic acid long alkylamine salts (PAA), which are sandwiched between Pb-Bi superconducting electrodes, at a temperature below the critical temperature of a Pb-Bi alloy. Typical I-V characteristics of weak-coupled superconductors are shown in the absence of microwave powers, and normal step structures are shown in the I-V characteristics in the presence of microwave powers. We found that metallic pathways exist in the LB films. From the solution of Ginzburg-Landau equations, we obtained the result that the diameter of the metallic pathways is smaller than the London penetration depth of the Pb-Bi alloy. Finally, we concluded that although the bridging filaments exist in the LB layers, the efficiency of detecting microwaves is excellent in our SIS device.
