Thermally Stimulated Current Due to Dipolar Depolarization under a Temperature Gradient

A thermally stimulated current measurement using a temperature gradient (TG-TSC measurement) has been applied to the study of dipolar depolarization in polymers. TG-TSC in the initial rise region has been theoretically analyzed and the effect of a temperature gradient has been clarified. The theoretical relation between TSC and TG-TSC is considered and a formula for TG-TSC is presented. We conclude that the experimental results on a cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) film can be explained using the above relation and that the characteristics obtained from the above theoretical analysis can be used for ascertaining the presence of a constant temperature gradient in a film.
