Semi-Quantification of GA_1 and GA_4 in Male-Sterile Anthers of Rice by Radioimmunoassay

• The levels of endogenous GA_1 and GA_4 in the anthers of a standard cultivar and the corresponding male-sterile, single gene mutant of rice, Oryza sativa L. (japonica), were measured by radioimmunoassay using GA_4-specific antiserum that showed highly specific immunoreactivity with GA_1 and GA_4. The levels of these GAs in the anthers of the male-sterile mutant were about one-fifth to one-sixth of those in the normal cultivar, suggesting a correlation between the endogenous levels of these GAs and the male sterility.
