A method to generate a high magnetic field by compressing an initially appliedmagnetic flux in the Filippov-type plasma focus device is proposed. The MHDshock wave was generated ahead of the collapsing current sheet, and the fluxwas contained between the shock front and the current sheet in the experimentalrange. Just after the shock front collided with a sleeve, in which a single crystal ofCdS as a Faraday probe and a magnetic probe were inserted, a rapid rise of thehigh magnetic field was observed by the probes. The flux of 2.7 x 10' Mx wascompressed into a radius of 0.7 cm and the maximum field c>f 140 kG was gen-erated in the axial direction. The current and the radius of the sheet at the highestcollapse were not affected by the sleeve. The probes for the field measurementsurvived even after more than ten discharges.
