Specific Heat and Electrical Conductivity of Low temperature Phase of Magnetite

It was observed for Fe.0. that the presence of residtmal stresses lowers theso-called Verwey temperature, T., considerably, broadens the temperature-width of the anomalous specific heat at T., produces another additional peakand decreases the discontinuous conductivity change at T.. The entropy changeat the phase transition was deterntir?ed to be 5.4 J /mole? deg but when the effectof short range order is included it beconces 9.6 which is much larger than the valueexpected for electron hopping under the Anderson's restriction. The anisotropic conductivity was naeasured below T. along the monoclinicaxes a, b and c. The magnitude of conductivity was in the order of o.>o.>o. inthe IBOgC of Iv>I>60K, while it channed to os>a.>o. below 60K. Theconductivity along [111], or the )ongest (Ill), was also naeasured by using asqueezed crystal in which a monoclinic single domain is realized. This directionwas least conductive among four<] I 1 )'s in the whole temperature range.
