Magneto-Optical Effects of the Wannier Exciton in a Biaxial ZnP_2 Crystal.I

An exciton absorption spectrum of a monoclinic Z11P2 crystal for E // b polarizationhas been measured in magnetic fields up to 14 T. From behaviors of the exciton lineseries in the magnetic fields parallel to the a-, b- and c-axes, it is found that the excitonis of s-type and has a paramagnetic splitting with the y-factor of 4. Analyzing thediamagnetic shift in a biaxial crystal, we estimate exciton reduced masses andbackground dielectric constants in the a-, b- and c-axes to be z.=(0.39-F-0.03)m.,q,=(0.45:0.03)m., q.=(0.15f0.01)m.), e,=7.8f0.2, cj=10.080.2 and e,=9.7 f 0.2, respectively.
