Dynamical Magnetic Structure of the Spin Density Wave State in Cr

• Inelastic neutron scattering experiments were carried out on the spin density wave (SDW) stateof a single-Q chrornitrm crystal. We made syste?matic investigations in a wide energy range up tow N 100 rneV by combining the triple axis and time-of-flight neutron spectroscopy, The q profileof the inelastic scattering is of a three-peaked structure; the commensurate scattering (CIVIS)at the antiferromagnetic superlattice and the incornmensurate scattering (ICMS) near the wavevector points of the static SDW. In the longitudinal SDW state the dynamical susceptibilityfor the CIVIS increases with increasing w and eventually overwhelms that for the ICMS. TheICIVIS, on the other hand, reaches a maximum at w x 20 men. This cross-over phenomenon isreflected in the tenaperature dependence of tlae magnetic excitations so that the CIVIS dominatesat ternperatures above 200 K.
