Theory of Anomalous Hall Effect in a Heavy Fermion System with a Strong Anisotropic Crystal Field

• In a heavy fertnion systerm, tlaere exists the anouaaalous Hall effect catrsed by localized ./-orbitalfreedonu, in addition to the normal Hall elect dvre to the Lore?'xtz force. In 1994, we fotrnd thattlae Hall coefficient catrsed by the Q11OIl12llOLlS Hall effect (R9") is predorninant and the relationR9" (X p' (p is the electrical resistivity) holds at low temperatures in many counpotrt'rds. Inthis xvork, xve sttrdy the systezaa x'x'here the rnagraetic susceptibility is higl'xly anisotropic due to tl'xestrong crystalline electric field Ol'l /-orbitals. Iraterestingl3', we find that RQ"' is nearly isotropicin general. This tendency is freqtrently observed experitnentally, whicla has casted suspicionthat the anornalotrs Hall effect rnay be irrelevant in real nuateria[s. Our theory corresponds tocorrections and generalizations of the pioneering work on ferronnagnetic rnetals by Karplus andLuttinger.
