Far-Infrared Magneto-Reflection and the Dielectric Constant in Graphite under High Magnetic Fields

A new structure has been found in the far-infrared magneto-reflection spectraunder high magnetic fields. The structure is attributed to the electron-hole coupledplasma mode in a classical point of view. A line-shape analysis is carried outquantum mechanically on the basis of the Slonczewski-Weiss-McCIure bandmodel. This analysis can reproduce not only the new structure mentioned abovebut also the total line-shapes fairly well. Analysing the calculated dielectricconstant, the origins of the new structure and other characteristic structures areexplored. As for the new structure, it is concluded that the electron-hole coupledplasma mode is the main origin, but the transition between the Landau levelsn= - l and n= 0 also gives a little contribution to the structure.
