Ithas been found that the (011) and (031) twin planes observed in iris-sarcosinecalcium chloride (TSCC) can be moved by an appropriate external stress justlike those found recently in (NH.).50.. The ferroelastic properties of TSCCin the orthorhombic phase can be explained if the existence of a hypotheticalhexagonal phase is assumed just as in the case of (NH.).SO4. The space groupof the hypothetical phase is inferred to be Dg.-P6./mcm, in which sarcosinemolecules are in disordered state, occupying either one of two stable states withequal probability.
