The Observation of Soft Mode in Rb_2ZnCl_4 by Raman Scattering

The Raman scattering spectra of Rb.ZnC]. single crystals; were measured overthe temperature range covering the successive pEtase transitions. The soft mode,whose frequency decreases as the transition point T3 =3O2 K is approached frombelow, was observed for the a(cc)b scattering orientation. 'I'his soft mode corre-sponds to the so-called amplitude mode in the incommensurate phase. Thepossibility of the anticrossing of two modes, one of whit:h is the soft mode,is suggested.
