The successive phase transitions from a prototype to an incommensurate phaseand then to a commensurate phase are studied on the basis of a model thermo-dynamic potential where the instability of a one-dimensional representation isassumed. The model is suitable to a unified description of the phase transitionsin SC(NH.). and NaN0. which show ferroelectricity in their commensuratephases. The incommensurate states of the rftodel and its dielectric properties areanalysed by taking harmonics into account. It lxas turned out that the presentmodel can satisfactorily reproduce the transitions actually observed in SC(NHz).and NaNO..
