Dielectric and Elastic Properties of NaNH_4SO_4・2H_2O above Its Curie Temperatute

The dielectric constant of NaNH.S0.'2H.0 at 10 kHz and 9.4 GHz, and its elasticstiffnesses at constant electric field (1/s;) and at constant electric polarization (1/s';)have been measured as functions of temperature above the Curie temperature (7'.). Itis observed that both the dielectric constant of a clamped crystal e'J. and the elasticcompliance s'; follow the Curie-Weiss law, as in the cases of the dielectric constant ofa stress-free crystal e'.. and the elastic compliance s:.. It is found that the extrapolatedCurie temperature T. is - 300 K for .s$ and 6 K for c5.. The experimental results arediscussed shortly on the basis of the Landau theory.
