Temperature dependence of the acoustic modes ccf T1H2PO. has been observed bythe Brillouin scattering around its higher phase transition point at 357 K ('tr)' Theelastic constant c, obtained by the angular-depenclent spectra shows softening withthe Curie-Weiss law in both phases. The phase transition is concluded to be a fer-roelastic one induced by an instability of the transverse acoustic mode which corresponds to the shear strain :c,. The angular dependence of the spectra reveals atypical monoclinicity below I'l... The two-dimensionality of ltydrogen-bonded net-work does not affect the dynamnical property of the phase transition mechanism.[thal1ium dihydrogen phosphate, TDP, TIDP, ferroelastic, scoff acoustic mode, ll Brillouin scattering, phase transitionl
