Acoustic Phonon Softening and Spontaneous Strains in KD_3(SeO_3)_2

Ultrasonic velocities at 5 atad 10 MHz and spontaneous strains of KD.(Se0,).were measured and the results were compared with thc>se for KH.(Se0.)..Elastic constants were obtained from the velocity data. The phase transition ofKD.(Se0.). accompanies an instability of the soft sg,? mode alone, as in the caseof KH.(Se0.).. Deuteration yields no significant isotope effect in the Curie-Weissconstant C, although it gives large isotope effect in the transition temperature T..
