A Model Calculation of Elastic Softening in Incommensurate-Ferroelastic Phase Transition of Some A_2BX_4-Type Crystals

A model calculation of elastic softening in incomrnensurate-ferroelastic (corn-mensurate) rhase transition is r>resented. The adorted thermod>znamic rotentialfunctional of the Landau-tvr>e is such as is arr>Iicable to some AzBX,t-.tvr>ecrystals which have an incommensurate phase followed by a commensurateferroelastic phase with the tripled unit cell. It has turned out that elastic softeningso far reported in [N(CH,).].CuC]. is well reproduced by the present model.
