Study of Incommensurate Phase Transition in {N (CH_3)_4}_2ZnCl_4 Crystal by Means of Ultrasound Propagation

Ultrasonic velocity and attenuation measurements for longitudinal modespropagating along the crystallographic axes of {N(CH,).}.ZnC[p crystal wereperformed over the temperature range covering the prototype, the incommensurateand the commensurate ferroelectric phases. All of measured velocities V)...),F[...] and U[001] show clear anomalies around the prototype-incommensuratephase transition point (75=20'C), while at thephase transition point (I(=7'C) only slight anomalies were observed. In attenua-tion measurements anomalies were also observed at the prototype-incommensuratephase transition point.
