Ferroelastic Domain Switching in YBa_2Cu_3O_x Single Crystals by External Stress

It is found that single-domain crystals of YBa_2Cu_3O_x can be formed from multidomain crystals by making use of ferroelasticity. Ferroelastic domain switching is shown to take place upon application of the external compressive stress of about 1000 kgw/cm^2 along a pseudotetragonal [100] axis at sample temperatures of about 200℃ to 350℃.
