Ferroelasticity and the Origin of Optical Activity of Ca_2Sr (C_2H_5CO_2)_6(DSP)

Ferroelastic behaviors havcc been found in Ca.Sr(C,H,CO.).. The tetragonalc axis of the crystal is rotated by angle 90' under appropriate external stress in theparaelectric phase. This axis t'otation is always ac:companiecl with the conversionof the sense of optical powe?=. It is shown that these facts can be explained asconsequences of a cubic-tetragonal phase transition at the )( point if we assumethe existence of a hypothetical cttbic phase with the space group Og-Fd3m atsome high temperatures.
