This case was a 65-year-old man who has noted a 1.0×1.5cm nodular tumor on the oral side of right lower lip. It showed blue color and well demarcation. Histological finding has shown lobular structure with excessive papillary endothelial proliferation within the vascular lumen, which was diagnosed as intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia. Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia develops in the head and neck as well as in the upper extremities in most cases. It is well known that this disease occurs in medium-sized vessels, as a result of ischemic damage due to impaired topical blood flow which causes excessive proliferation of vascular endothelial cells. Histological findings are well-encapsulated lesions and excessive papillary endothelial proliferation. These endothelial cells covered the surface of the core consisting of connective tissues when they were detected. Furthermore, the lesion is characterized by new and old thrombus formation. The cause of vascular endothelial proliferation in the lesion has not been clarified. However, we demonstrated that proliferated endothelial cells are positive for vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) by immunohistochemical staining performed to examine the involvement of VEGF produced by the lesion.
