A Surgical Case of Both Cystic Glioma and Teratoid Tumor with Juxtaposition in the Cerebral Hemisphere of a Young Child

Two kinds of tumors were surgically extirpated from the right cerebral hemisphere of a 2 year old girl. These established that a cystic glioma and a teratoid tumor were in a juxtaposition. The wall measuring 0.5-0.8 cm in thickness of the cystic glioma was composed of admixed elements of ependymoma, astrocytcma and oligodendroglioma. Watery sanguineous fluid was in the cyst. The other, teratoid tumor, showed a spherical mass which histologically revealed various numbers of cartilages, poorly differentiated epithelial cell nests, abundant reticular fibers, undifferentiated mesenchymal cells, myxomatous areas and the significant positive stain of mucopolysaccharide in ground substance of the tumor. A definite neuroectodermal element was not found in the latter tumor. These two kinds of tumors were neither mixed nor intermingled with each other, but were in juxtaposition. Some of considerations of oncogenesis were discussed.
