We lately treated a 56-year-old woman who showed a small fibrosarcoma at the operation scar tissue of the mastectomy and postirradiation therapy which she had received 15 years before. This case fell under the classification of postirradiation sarcoma suggested by Cahan et al. Histologically the postirradiation fibrosarcoma couldn't be distinguished from spontaneous fibrosarcoma. Clinically the recurrence rate for fibrosarcoma of the breast is as low as 7%, and the 15-year survival rate is as good as 92%. In contrast, fibrosarcoma taking place after radical mastectomy and postoperative irradiation therapy has a very poor prognosis. Besides, postirradiation fibrosarcoma developing at the operation scar tissue may be characterized by the recurrences at intervals of several months and malignant changes every time of recurrences. In consideration or those points, we treated the case showing well-differentiated fibrosarcoma by first giving intra-arterial infusion chemotherapy and then radical operation.
