Platelet volume in acute leukemia was measured by the electron particle counter. Platelet volume (mode value) was smaller in cases with acute leukemia than in normal persons; that was 3.858 μ^3 and this was 5.964 μ^3 respectively. The measurement of platelet volume during the course in acute leukemic patients revealed that the platelet volume had a trend to become small in the exacerbation stage and to approach to normal range in the remission stage. Transfused platelet decreased in number with the lapse of time and the platelet volume also decreased in proportion to the number. The decreasing rate differed among the donors. The different data are attributable to the effect of histocompatibility of lymphocyte HL-A typing.
