This investigation was carried out to clarify the state of nosocomial candidal infection. Major Candida species isolated from clinical materials other than feces and pharyngeal mucosa during 5 years were totaled for various sample groups. The number of isolated was greater in the order of C. albicans>C. glabrata>C. parapsilosis>C. krusei>C. guilliermondii. C. albicans, which was detected most frequently, was isolated from 60-70% of all samples in each year, but the frequency of its isolation has tended to decrease since 1993. The frequency of isolation of C. glablata has changed, and that of C. parapsilosis has slightly increased. C. albicans has been isolated predominantly from all kinds of materials, but C. glablata and C. tropicalis were detected more frequently in urine and vaginal secretion. As Candida infection of immunodeficient individuals has increased, treatment with antifungal agents has become common, but some Candida species are reported to have acquired drug resistance, posing clinical problems. MIC of fluconazole against C. albicans ranges from 0.1 to more than 50μg/ml, and that against C. glabrata from 6.25 to 25μg/ml. There were differences of 4 tubes in the results between the two species.
