Oxidation of olefins has been examined with the following three types of reagents; (i) (C<SUB>6</SUB>H<SUB>5</SUB>Se)<SUB>2</SUB>–Br<SUB>2</SUB>–(Bu<SUB>3</SUB>Sn)<SUB>2</SUB>O, (ii) (C<SUB>6</SUB>H<SUB>5</SUB>Se)<SUB>2</SUB>–<I>t</I>-BuOOH, and (iii) (C<SUB>6</SUB>H<SUB>6</SUB>Se)<SUB>2</SUB>–(C<SUB>6</SUB>H<SUB>5</SUB>SeO)<SUB>2</SUB>O, and the corresponding α-phenylseleno carbonyl compounds have been obtained directly from the olefins.
