A cytotaxonomy of six species of Chrysosplenium collected in the Qin Ling Mountains in Shaanxi Province, China

Chrysosplenium giraldianum Engl., C. uniflorum Maxim., C. griffithii Hook. f. et Thoms., C. microsperum Franch., C. sinicum Maxim. and C. pilosum Maxim. var. valdipilosum Ohwi collected in the Qin Ling Mountains in Shaanxi Province, China were cyiotaxonomically studied. Chrysosplenium giraldianum and C. griffithii had the complex chromocenter type of the resting chromosomes and the interstitial type of the mitotic prophase chromosomes, while the other four species had the simple chromocenter type of the resting chromosomes and the proximal type of the mitotic prophase chromosomes. The chromosome numbers of 2n=32 for C. giraldianum, 2n=16 for C. microsperum and 2n=24 for C. sinicum were observed here for the first time. The chromosome numbers of 2n=20 for C. uniflorum, 2n=18 for C. gnffithii and 2n=24 for C. pilosum var. valdipilosum verified the previous counts. Chrysosplenium giraldianum and C. griffithii had large-sized chromosomes, while C. uniflorum had medium-sized chromosomes, and C. microsperum, C. sinicum and C. pilosum var. valdipilosum had small-sized chromosomes.
