A comparative chromosomal study of five species of Chrysosplenium collected in the northern part of Sichuan Province, China

Five species of Chrysosplenium collected in the northern part of Sichuan Province, China, were chromosomally compared. Chrysosplenium griffithii and C. lanuginosum had the complex chromocenter type in the resting chromosomes, while C. pilosum var. valdipilosum, C. aff. lixianense and C. qinlingense had the simple chromocenter type. Chrysosplenium griffithii, C. lanuginosum and C. aff. lixianense had the interstitial type, while the other two species had the proximal type in the mitotic prophase chromosomes. The chromosome number of 2n = 12 in C. aff. lixianense, and that of 2n= 52 in C. qinlingense were reported here for the first. The chromosome numbers of 2n=36 in C. griffithii and C. pilosum var. valdipilosum and 2n=16 and 17 in C. lanugunosum studied here were different from those in the previous reports. Chrysosplenium griffithii and C. lanugunosum had large-sized chromosomes, C. aff. lixianense had medium-sized chromosomes, and C. pilosum var. valdipilosum and C. qinlingense had small-sized chromosomes.
