EPR Study of Tetragonal and Orthorhombic Fe^<3+> Centres in Rb_2CdF_4 Crystals

EPR measurements for the substitutional Fe" ions in layered perovskite-typeRb.CdF. crystals have been made at room temperatures using a X-band spec-trometer. A tetragonal spectrum is ascribed to an uncompensated Fe" centre. An or-thorhombic spectrum is analysed by separating the fine structure terms into uniaxialterms and a cubic one. Obtained uniaxial parameters are well compared to those forthe other tetragonal Fe" centres. By the analysis, the orthorhombic centre is ascribedto a Fe" Jon associated with a nearest-Cd" vacancy. The fine structure parametersare analysed further by the Newman's superposition model to obtain metal-liganddistances.
