Parametric Heating by Radio-Frequency near the Lower Hybrid Frequency in the JFT-2 Tokamak

Jon heating efficiencies of the central plasma obtained under variotts experi-mental conditions indicated that a nonlinear effect played an importa?at role inthe ion heating when the high rf powcr was irradiated to the plasma. Nc>nlinearlyexcited electromagnetic modes as well as the parametric decay spectrum of theelectrostatic modes, which were also observed simultaneously, sugcgested afurther excitation of nonresonant q?aasi-modes decay instability. It wins shownthat the ion heating for ag/azj(0)>][.]3 (where ctcg is frequency of irrztdiated rffield and co..(0) is the lower hybrid frequency at the center of the plasm?t column)were well explained by the theoretical model having the empirical nonlinearheating rates resultiuag from the excitation of nonresonant quasi-mode.s in one-dimensional WKB approximation.
