EPR and ^<19>F-ENDOR of Cr^<3+> Impurity Centres in K_2ZnF_4 and K_2MgF_4

The EPR spectra of three kinds of Cr' " centres in K.Z11F4 and K.MgF. arereported. The Cr" ion in each centre replaces the divalent cation substitutionally.The centre I (tetragonal symmetry) is ascribed to a vacancy-free Cr" ion. Incentre II (nearly-trigonal) a vacancy is present at the nearest K" site and incentre III (nearly-tetragonal) at divalent cation site. For each centre the valuesof the parameters (g77 -g.) and D in the spin Hamiltonian are discussed by con-sidering the effective negative charge distribution surrounding the Cr" ion. Inthe vacancy-associated centres the values of D are interpreted by superposition oftwo uniaxial spin-Hamiltonian terms. Results of "F-ENDOR of KzMgF.: Cr"are also presented.
