Electron Paramagnetic Resonance of Gd^<3+> Centres in Several Perovskite Fluorides

EPR meastu'ements for substituted Gd" centres in CsCaF, CsCdF., RbCdF.and KCdF. have been made at several temperatures in a range 77-487 K. In allthe crystals the spectrum with tetragonal symmetry for Gd" centre associatedwith the nearest-neighbour cation vacancy has been observed together with thatfor cubic centre. The observed fotu'th-order parameters in the spin Hamiltonianof both cubic and tetragonal centres are discussed in the series of perovskitefluorides. The result suggests that the parameter b. for Gd" in 6-fold cubiccoordination changes its sign as the lattice constant decreases. The superpositionmodel for the fourth-order parameter is examined.
