Magnetization Measurement of NENP and NINO in High Magnetic Field

Magnetization measurements have been performed on the single crystal samples ofNi(C.H.Nz)zNO.(CIO,0, NENP, auad 1Ni(C3H,(,Nz)zN0z(CIO.), NINE) in pulsedhigh magnetic fields. No magnetizatiou? appears up to about NOT reflecting tltepresence of the Haldane gap and the linear magnetization appears in both compoundsabove this field. The observed anisotropy of the transition field is explctined by theHaldane gap energy E. and the crystalline field coztstants D and E ixa the lowestexcited triplet. The parameters are estirnated as f.=16.8K, D= -16.1K, andE= - 1.3 K and E = 14.2 K, D= - J1.5 K and E = 2.1 K for NENP anc[ NINO, re-Espectively.[magnetization, magnetic susceptibility,j romagnet, Haldane gap, NENP, NANOlinear-chain ]-leisenbergantifer-
