EPR Study of Cr^<3+>-Li^+ Centres in Several Perovskite Fluorides

Centres with tetragonal symmetry in KZnF3, KCdF., RbCdF. and CsCdF.co-doped with Cr" and Li" ions have been studied by EPR in the cubic phase ofhost crystals. Due to charge compensation some of Cr" ions are associated witha cation vacancy (V.) or a Li" ion at the nearest divalent-cation site. The wag-nitude of the fine structure parameter D in the spin Hamiltonian increases withlattice constant for the Cr" -Li" centre. In KZnF. the magnitude of D for theCr" -Li" centre is smaller than that for the Cr"-V. centre as expected frompoint charge model, whereas in KCdF., RbCdF. and CsCdF. the former islarger than the latter against the expectation from the point charge model. Thedependence of D on lattice constant is discussed.
